I found an semi-abandoned shopping mall while traveling the midwestern US and thought it would be fun to shoot some fashion there. The site was fascinating to me. Even though it had a handful of shops still open, it was obviously a product of late 80s/mid 90s Americana that seemed "stuck in time," stuck in an unreal future, stuck in some strange combination of failure, commercialism and capitalism gone wrong. Sites like these became intriguing because they were such fantastical cogs in the barrel to Western notions of progress and technology....I wanted to find more of these other places, these other spaces where alternative systems exist but obviously in their own magical worlds, within and outside the context of a larger frame of reference. The contradictions are fascinatingly functional.
